Waterhouse
Oddly, I have found that John William Waterhouse’s paintings have provided apt illustration to points I have tried to make in several of the stories posted here. Therefore, I have set up this page to collect those paintings, and others, for all to see.
Here is his Wikipedia entry, and a good site about him. (Note: Waterhouse’s paintings are in the public domain.)

You know, it’s a fairly common thing to see Second Life residents try to cast aside their first lives when they enter this world, much like the Typist character that you mentioned in your “And Anonymity Masks Much But Reveals All” post. It’s extremely refreshing to see such a conjunction between the two realities in your work– I suppose it makes the virtual world seem more palpable in a way… then again, I suppose it could be argued that art can pose as the original “avatar” and the original “virtual world”, as art in the real world is likewise an extension of how we see and express things in our minds.
My home in Second Life is a combination of Byzantine an techno/steampunk. No art I have found complimens this marriage like pre-Raphealite art. The women of Collier, Waterhouse, Bouguereau, an others breathe grace an beauty into the stone an metal an glass of my design. Every visitor I have had here stands rapt for a time, taking in the essence of these masters.
John William Waterhouse is such a good artist. I think his travels around the world developed and influenced his works.
Of all the famous British artists like Turner, Constable, and more contemporary painters like Hockney, Waterhouse is probably my personal favourite.
